DOJ Chief Boying Remulla Included in Shortlist for Ombudsman Applicants Submitted to Marcos Jr.

7 Out of 17 Applicants for Ombudsman Including DOJ Chief Make It To Shortlist

DOJ CHIEF – Justice Secretary Boying Remulla is one of those included in the shortlist for Ombudsman applicants submitted to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The position of the Ombudsman is currently vacant as it was only recently when a shortlist of the applicants was submitted to the President. He will have to appoint the next chief graft buster in the country.

It is no secret to the Filipinos that one of the applicants for Ombudsman is DOJ Secretary Boying Remulla. According to him, he believes that he has a lot to offer and that the justice department will be in good hands if he will be transferred to another office.

Remulla previously confirmeed that he already informed Marcos Jr. about his application for Ombudsman. Then, he stressed that the Judicial and Bar Council or JBC would still have to evaluate all the applications for Ombudsman.

However, previously, presidential sister and Senator Imee Marcos claimed that he will block Remulla from getting the position of Ombudsman for the Duterte family. She claimed that the DOJ Chief will be allegedly used to pressure Vice President Sara Duterte and her family members.

Sen. Imee Marcos is against the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. She opened a Senate investigation and submitted the findings of the probe to the Ombudsman. She called for the investigation of several Marcos Cabinet officials including DOJ Chief Boying Remulla.

The Judicial and Bar Council usually submits a shortlist of at least three (3) applicants for Ombudsman to the president. It is the Chief Executive who will choose among the list. Recently, based on a report on GMA News, the JBC has submitted a shortlist of seven applicants for Ombudsman which include DOJ chief Boying Remulla.

  • Former Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Stephen Cruz
  • SC Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan
  • Office of the President Deputy Executive Sec. for Legal Affairs Anna Logan
  • Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla
  • Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Mario Lopez
  • Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Michael Frederick Musngi 

Based on the report, 17 individuals have applied for the position of Ombudsman and only 7 made it to the shortlist. Here are the votes that the applicants who made it to the shortlist got:

  • Michael Aguinaldo — 6 votes
  • Stephen Cruz — 4 votes
  • Samuel Gaerlan — 5 votes
  • Anna Logan — 5 votes
  • Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla — 5 votes
  • Mario Lopez — 4 votes
  • Michael Frederick Musngi — 4 votes

In June, it was confirmed that the Ombudsman was investigating the confidential funds of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
