Tourist Bus Carrying Grade 1 Students Catches Fire on NLEX

A tourist bus carrying a group of Grade 1 students and their parents caught fire along the northbound lane of NLEX.

On Wednesday evening (October 1, 2025), a supposed fun and memorable field trip turned into a frightening experience for a group of Grade 1 students and their parents after the tourist bus they were riding caught fire along the northbound lane of NLEX in Barangay Patubig, Marilao, Bulacan.

The group was on their way home from an amusement park in Pasay City when the incident happened around 9 p.m. According to one of the parents, she first noticed a strong smell of smoke before seeing thick fumes creeping inside the bus.

The heat from the window side made them realize that something was seriously wrong. Moments later, smoke and flames started spreading from the back portion of the vehicle.

Panic broke out as the more than 40 passengers rushed to get out. Fortunately, the driver managed to stop and open the doors in time, allowing everyone to escape. But just as they were moving away, another loud explosion occurred, and the fire grew even stronger.

The children, many of whom were asleep before the chaos, were shaken and terrified. Some parents shared that the kids were trembling and hesitant to board another bus that came to help them continue their trip to the Bocaue Exit.

The Marilao Fire Station reported that the flames were put out before 10 p.m. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt, though a few individuals were brought to the hospital after having trouble breathing due to the smoke.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire. Meanwhile, traffic in the area slowed down as responders managed the scene.
