BFP Rescues Man Who Climbed a Church Bell Tower in General Santos
A man who climbed to the top of the bell tower of a church in General Santos City was safely rescued by the authorities.
On Wednesday (October 1, 2025), a man climbed to the top of the bell tower of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Church in General Santos City. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) quickly responded, and the man was safely rescued.
According to BFP officials, they received a call reporting that someone had managed to reach the top of the church’s bell tower. Witnesses said the man appeared confused and restless, showing signs that he was not in a stable state of mind.
The BFP’s Emergency Medical Services team rushed to the scene. When they arrived, they found the man seated on the edge of the tall structure, talking to himself and looking very uneasy.
The incident alarmed people nearby, as the situation could have easily turned into an accident. Before attempting the rescue, authorities set up safety measures to make sure the man and the responders would not be harmed.
The rescuers then carefully tried to communicate with him, patiently negotiating until he agreed to come down on his own. The process took time, but eventually, the man cooperated and was safely escorted to the ground.
After the rescue, the man was immediately checked to ensure he had no injuries. He is now under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, where he will be given proper attention and support.
