Here’s A Typhoon Opong Update as PH Braces Severe Tropical Storm
TYPHOON OPONG UPDATE – The severe tropical storm is now over Masbate and wind signal no.3 is raised in several areas.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA monitored tropical storm Opong which was expected to bring heavy rains and gusty winds in several areas across the nation. The authorities have previously warned the residents of the areas that are under storm signals to keep an eye on the updates for safety.

As of 5:00 a.m. today, the update stated that Typhoon Opong is currently over Masbate. The typhoon has weakened into a severe tropical storm. It hit Palanas, Masbate at 4:00 a.m. with sustained winds of kph and gustinees of up to kph.
PAGASA said in its Typhoon Opong update that the storm will continue moving westward. It is forecasted to cross Masbate, Sibuyan Sea, southern CALABARZON, and northern MIMAROPA before it will reach the West Philippine Sea either late Friday or early Saturday. - Marinduque

- Batangas
- southern Laguna
- Northern Samar
- northern & central Eastern Samar
- northern & central Samar
- Biliran
- northern Leyte

Based on the latest Typhoon Opong update issued by PAGASA, the tropical storm is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility or PAR on Saturday afternoon. Today, intense rainfall is expected in several areas across the nation with the joint forces of Opong and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
According to PAGASA, widespread and serious flooding and landslides are expected in areas across the central part of the country. Torrential rains are expected in the following provinces:
- Samar Island
- Sorsogon
- Masbate
- Romblon
- Mindoro provinces
