Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Asserts FPRRD Does Not Need PH Officials amid Alleged “Fake Welfare Check”
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that the Philippine Embassy officials allegedly interviewed former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and sent a report to Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Since March, former pres. Rodrigo Duterte is detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands. He was arrested by the Philippine authorities who assisted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) upon his arrival from Hong Kong.
On the same day that Duterte was arrested, the former Chief Executive was sent to Dubai en route for The Hague, Netherlands where he is currently detained under the ICC custody. He is facing an accusation of crimes against humanity.
The ICC recently revealed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is faced with three (3) counts of murder filed against him by the prosecution. His confirmation of charges hearing that was initially set on September 23 was postponed after his lawyer claimed that he is allegedly “not fit to stand trial”.
According to lawyer Nicholas Kaufman, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is unable to recall events, places, and even close members of his family. He stressed that the former President is suffering from ‘cognitive impairment’. He asked the ICC to adjourn all legal proceedings indefinitely.
The statement of Kaufman elicited mixed reactions from the Filipino people. The Duterte supporters maintain their call for the immediate release of the former President while some Filipinos doubt the real cognitive state of the former President citing his children’s previous remarks that he is okay. The British-Israeli Lawyer expressed his hope that the Marcos Jr. administration will allow his client’s return to the country.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte issued a statement over the alleged visit of the officials of the Philippine Embassy in The Hague to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte inside the ICC detention center. According to the Vice President, it was a “sham welfare check” that was allegedly ordered by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
The younger Duterte warned that the ICC and the Philippine government will be held accountable if something happens to former Pres. Duterte because of incidents like such which she described as “intrusion”. According to her, the PH Embassy officials interviewed her father and it is allegedly against “the rule of the detention unit concerning consular visits”.
