PAGASA: Opong Becomes Tropical Storm, ST Nando Maintains Strength

PAGASA Releases Latest weather Update for Wednesday (September 24, 2025)

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that Tropical depression Opong has become a tropical storm.

On Wednesday (September 24, 2025), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Storm Opong and Super Typhoon Nando will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that Tropical Storm Opong was spotted 855 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 80 kph, moving west-northwestward at 20 kph.

Opong may develop into a severe tropical storm on Thursday (September 25), but it is less likely to directly affect the weather of the country.

The tropical storm may make landfall over the Bicol region and across Southern Luzon by Friday afternoon (September 26) to Saturday morning (September 27).

“It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall, severe winds, and storm surge may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone,” PAGASA said.

Super Typhoon Nando has 185 kph and gustiness of up to 230 kph, moving west-northwestward at 25 kph.

Nando will begin to weaken due to a marginally favorable environment over the waters south of mainland China and the increasing frictional effects due to proximity to land. Further weakening is expected post landfall this afternoon or evening,” the agency added.

The southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Habagat will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula.

The localized thunderstorms will bring similar weather conditions over the rest of Mindanao.

The weather agency warned the public of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.
