Police Officer Opens Fire on Fellow Policeman Leaving One Dead and Another Injured
A police officer turned his firearm on his fellow policemen during duty hours at a community checkpoint in Cagayan.
Last weekend, a cop opened fire on his fellow policemen at Rizal town in Cagayan leaving one officer dead and another wounded.
Authorities identified the suspect as a Senior Master Sergeant assigned to the Rizal Municipal Police Station. The officer is a resident of Tuao, Cagayan. His colleagues, who became the victims of the attack, were also stationed at the same police office.

The incident took the life of Police Executive Master Sergeant (PEMS) Danilo Binondo, a resident of Piat, Cagayan. His companion, PEMS Manuel Deodato of Rizal, Cagayan, survived the incident but sustained gunshot injuries.
According to reports, the suspect approached another officer at the checkpoint and pointed his long firearm at him. Binondo and Deodato came closer to intervene, not expecting that they would become the targets. The suspect fired, hitting both men.
The victims were rushed to the hospital, but Binondo was declared dead on arrival. Deodato is currently recovering from his injuries.
After the shooting, the suspect initially tried to flee but later surrendered to his police chief. The exact motive behind his actions is still under investigation by the Cagayan Police Provincial Office.
Police Regional Office 2 Director, PBGen. Roy Parena, personally visited the victims’ families to extend assistance and express support.
The incident has raised concern within the community and the police force, as it involved officers who were supposed to be working together to ensure public safety. Authorities continue to investigate to determine what triggered the suspect to fire at his own colleagues.
