New Tropical Depression Forms Outside PAR, Heavy Rainfall Warning Raised in Some Areas

New Tropical Depression Forms Outside PAR as PAGASA Monitors Two Weather Systems

A new tropical depression formed outside the country’s vicinity, heavy rainfall warning was raised in several areas.

On Wednesday (September 17, 2025), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed that the low-pressure area east of Southern Luzon has developed into a tropical depression.

The system was last spotted about 1,265 kilometers east of Southern Luzon, still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

New Tropical Depression

The tropical depression currently packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 55 kilometers per hour. It is moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said that once the system enters PAR, it will be given the local name Nando. Forecasts show that it may continue to intensify as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea, and it could reach typhoon category by early next week.

If the system strengthens as expected, parts of Northern Luzon may be placed under higher storm signals, possibly reaching Signal No. 4 in some areas. However, PAGASA noted that in the next 48 hours, the tropical depression is not expected to directly affect weather conditions in the country.

At the same time, PAGASA continues to monitor Typhoon Mirasol, which is affecting parts of Luzon and the Visayas. Rainfall warnings have been raised in several provinces:
