Jinggoy Estrada, Joel Villanueva Willing to Open Bank Accounts

Senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada are ready to open their bank accounts.

As part of their bid to clear their name, Senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada are willing to sign a bank secrecy waiver.

A former assistant district engineer from Bulacan has tagged Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva in the kickback issue. Accordingly, the senators received kickbacks equivalent to 30 percent of the budget for flood control projects in Hagonoy, Malolos, and Balagtas. This was a claim both senators have immediately denied.

Senator Estrada denied receiving kickbacks and called the claims pure lies. He said, “Mamatay man ako, mamatay man pamilya ko, wala akong natatanggap.”

Senator Villanueva also did not receive kickbacks and swore on his last name that he did not do any of the things he was accused of. He cannot betray his principles and assured that he would cooperate in the investigation and reveal everything he knows, without sparing anyone.

Recently, to further prove their claims that they have not received any amount from the anomalous flood control projects, they expressed willingness to open their bank accounts and face an investigation.

He said, “Ako, I am open to any investigation, ngayon pa lang kahit hindi pa nagko-commence and Blue Ribbon ni Sen. (Ping) Lacson, I am willing to sign any waiver to open my bank accounts. Let me put that on record.”

Villanueva is also open to doing it “ever since.” He then appealed to his colleagues, saying the allegations are baseless. He has actually been supporting a bill for government officials to sign waivers for open bank accounts consistently.

Previously, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assistant district engineer Brice Ericson Hernandez claimed that Estrada had PHP 355 million of projects to Hagonoy and Malolos and took a 30-percent kickback. Villanueva, on the other hand, released PHP 600 million worth of projects in Balagtas and also took a 30-percent cut.
