Traffic Enforcer Attacked by Tricycle Driver in Puerto PrincesaÂ
A traffic enforcer of the Puerto Princesa City Government was injured after being attacked by a tricycle driver in Barangay San Jose.
A traffic enforcer is a person assigned to manage and control traffic on the road. In the Philippines, traffic enforcers are often from the local government or agencies like MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority). They are not always full police officers but still have the authority to implement traffic rules.Â
On Thursday morning, September 11, 2025, the traffic enforcer flagged down a tricycle for not having a visible franchise sign, making it a colorum vehicle. According to the enforcer, he was simply doing his duty when he stopped the driver to inform him about the violation.

Witnesses said the situation escalated after the two had a heated argument. The 54-year-old driver reportedly became angry when his request to let him go was denied. He attacked the enforcer with a bladed weapon, injuring him before quickly fleeing the scene.
Police officers immediately responded to the incident and were able to arrest the suspect an hour later.
During the investigation, the driver admitted that his tricycle was indeed colorum and that he had been issued tickets several times before. He expressed regret for what he did, saying he acted out of frustration.

Fortunately, the traffic enforcer’s injuries were not life-threatening. He was given medical attention and is now recovering. The Puerto Princesa Police Station 2 is preparing charges against the suspect, who remains in custody.
The incident portrays the dangers faced by traffic enforcers who work daily to maintain order on the road. Authorities urged drivers to remain calm during apprehensions and follow traffic rules to avoid similar incidents.
Despite the attack, the enforcer’s quick recovery and the quick arrest of the suspect brought some relief to the local community.
