K9 Handler Dismissed from Job for Abusing Service Dog
A K9 handler was fired from his job after caught on video mistreating a service dog at a compound in Pasig City.
Recently, the Search and Secure Canine Training and Services International Inc. dismissed a k9 handler who was caught abusing a service. The post immediately spread like wildfire on social media and elicited comments from the netizens.
The company said they immediately conducted an internal investigation after learning about the video. Their findings confirmed that the handler had violated animal welfare protocols and failed to meet the standards required in handling service dogs.
“Upon reviewing the situation, we found the root cause to be the dog maltreatment of the Security Canine Handler. This action is unacceptable, and we are taking this matter seriously,” the agency said.
The agency decided to terminate his employment due to his inappropriate actions. The company also assured the public that they take the care and safety of their K9s very seriously and will continue to implement strict measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Animal rights group Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) also stepped in and announced that they will file a case against the handler. They are already in touch with Meralco officials, as well as the person who took and posted the video online.
Both have expressed their willingness to help and stand as witnesses in the legal process to seek justice for Bingo, the service dog involved.
PAWS reminded the public to be vigilant and report any kind of animal cruelty. They stressed that animals, especially working dogs like Bingo, deserve proper care, respect, and protection.
“PAWS is already in coordination with Meralco officials and the individual who posted the video. Both have assured us of their willingness to stand with PAWS to pursue legal action. The video taker will be the primary witness in the case to be filed against Bingo’s cruel handler,” PAWS said.
