DILG Sec. Remulla Speaks on PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III’s Relief from Post
PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III did not violate any law amid his relief as per the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
After serving as the head of the Philippine National Police for around three (3) months, relieved PNP chief Nicolas Torre III is now out from the national police’s helm as ordered by President Bongbong Marcos. The Palace released a letter early today confirming the relief of the PNP Chief.

The letter was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin. It was not stated why Torre was relieved from his position. The relieved PNP Chief was only told to ensure proper turn over of the documents and all the matters related to his office.
“For the continuous and efficient deliver of public services in the PNP, you are hereby directed to ensure proper turnover of all matters, documents and information relative to your office,” the letter reads.

Many Filipinos were left wondering why Torre was removed from his post. He played a significant role in the arrest of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder and leader Apollo Quiboloy as well as the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands.

In fact, countless Duterte supporters were angered and mocked the appointment of Torre as the chief of the PNP following his role in the unexpected turn of events last March 11. Then, he was the chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Malacañang has yet to issue further details over the relief of Torre. The relieved head of the national police also remained mum. Recently, DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla confirmed the relief of Torre.

In a press conference, DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla clarified that relieved PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III did not violate any law. Based on a post of Inquirer on social media, the Interior Secretary explained that the decision is simply a choice of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for the PNP.
“He did not violate any laws. He has not been charged with any violations. He has not been charged criminally or administratively. It is simply a choice of the President to take a new direction for the PNP,” Remulla explained.
Former Senator and now Mamamayang Liberal Party-List Representative Leila de Lima questioned the move of Marcos Jr. to relieve PNP chief Nicolas Torre III whom she described as a “high-performing PNP chief”.
