ML Party-List Rep. Leila de Lima Reacts To Removal of Now-Former PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III
LEILA DE LIMA – The former Senator and now Mamamayang Liberal Party-List Representative questioned the move of Marcos Jr. to relieve Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Nicolas Torre III from his post.
Countless Filipinos are left with questions over the recent move of President Bongbong Marcos just around three (3) months after he appointed PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III to the post. The Palace released a letter early today announcing the removal of Torre from the PNP lead.

In a letter signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, ‘by the order of the President’, there was no mention of the reason why PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III was relieved from his position. It was stated in the letter that the President’s order must be implemented “effective immediately”.
The decision of Marcos Jr. earned different reactions from the public as well as from some prominent figures in the Philippine political arena. Undeniably, there are those who feel glad over Torre’s removal as the PNP chief while there are also those who were left disappointed by the Palace’s move.

Former senator and now Mamamayang Liberal party-list Representative Leila de Lima is one of those who are visibly disappointed over the relief of PNP chief Nicolas Torre III from the position. In her post on social media, the former Senator stated praises for the relieved PNP Chief.

In her post, ML Party-List Rep. Leila de Lima asked what is happening. According to her, the Marcos Jr. administration must have a good reason for removing PNP chief Nicolas Torre III whom she described as very famous and “high-performing”.
“What’s happening?! They better have a good reason in doing that to a very popular, much appreciated and high-performing PNP Chief! the former Senator wrote.

Malacañang has not issued further details regarding the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for the removal of PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III. The relieved PNP Chief is also mum on the decision of the Chief Executive.
Previously, relieved PNP chief Nicolas Torre III was even mentioned by Marcos Jr. during his SONA 2025 as he called him the “new boxing champion”. Torre was declared “winner by default” in a charity boxing match versus acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte who did not arrive.
Amid the questions, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla spoke on the relief of PNP chief Nicolas Torre III revealing who will replace him in the position.
