Netizen Earns Millions from Online Investment, Pretends to Be Broke to Avoid Handouts

Netizen Earns Millions from Online Investment but Claims Gambling Addiction to Avoid Numerous Requests

A male netizen made an alibi that he became addicted to gambling after many people began asking him for money when they found out he earned millions from an online investment.

Lemen123, a Reddit user, shared his experience of being approached by relatives and friends for financial help after they learned he had made millions. His post quickly went viral and garnered various reactions online.

The netizen shared that he started investing in cryptocurrency and blue-chip stocks back in 2017 while working in a BPO and freelancing on the side. Living frugally with no expensive hobbies or relationships, he poured most of his earnings into his investments.

Last year, his patience paid off when he finally reached his first million. Out of excitement, he posted about it on social media, something he later regretted. Once people found out, requests for financial help poured in.

His parents asked him to cover household bills, groceries, and his sibling’s tuition. His sibling even demanded a weekly allowance and a new iPhone, and when he refused, they cut ties. A close friend asked him to sponsor their wedding, then hinted at wanting a new laptop and other freebies.

Relatives either borrowed money or called him stingy when he declined. He decided to tell everyone he had lost everything to online gambling and was drowning in debt. He even hired a fake debt collector to call him in front of others for effect. Gradually, the constant requests stopped.

Eventually, he was left in peace, no more demands, no more guilt trips. He kept living simply, continued investing, and even grew his wealth further. He realized that it’s better to stay quiet. Sometimes, pretending to be broke is the price of keeping your peace of mind.
