VP Sara Duterte Preparing For ‘Highly Probable’ 2026 Impeachment

The camp of VP Sara Duterte said she is ready to face trial next year.

The Supreme Court is yet to address the motions for reconsideration regarding the ruling, but VP Sara Duterte is already preparing for impeachment in 2026.

The Supreme Court declared the articles vs. VP Sara were unconstitutional, the ruling that sparked outrage among groups and organizations. The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte stemmed from various major allegations, which included the misuse of confidential funds of her offices.

The high court emphasized that the decision is “immediately executory,” and previously, 19 senators voted to archive the complaint. Sen. Rodante Marcoleta motioned to dismiss the impeachment against the second-in-command, but accepted the suggestion to use the term archive instead during the Senate’s plenary session on August 6.

A motion of reconsideration has been filed by the House of Representatives, and the SC is yet to address the motion. Despite this, the camp of the vice president expressed that she is ready and is preparing for a “highly probable” impeachment next year.

Michael Poa, one of the lawyers of Duterte, expressed that she is ready to face the accusers and the allegations. In case the high court rejects the MRs, the threat of having another batch of complaints next year still remains.

In the SC ruling, it stressed that a new complaint may only be filed in February 2026 due to the constitutional provision.

“There is a big possibility, maybe even a high probability that a second round of impeachment complaint will be filed, so that’s why tayo sa defense team hindi pa tayo nagtatapos, our preparations are still ongoing,” Poa said.

Meanwhile, regarding the alleged misuse of confidential funds, Duterte shared on Monday that her camp would explain the matter in the “proper forum,” given the developments in her impeachment case.
