Chiz Escudero Links “Flood Control Project Contractor” Issue against him to Duterte’s Impeachment

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero Speaks on Flood Control Project Contractor Donor during 2022 Campaign

CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senate President tagged the issue against him over his link to a flood control project contractor as a “demolition job” and sees it connected with the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Prior to his 4th State of the Nation Address, Pres. Bongbong Marcos already wanted a flood control masterplan for the country. Every year, the nation is hit by several tropical storms that usually leave many areas flooded — some typhoons cause damages to properties as well as fatalities, too.

During the Marcos SONA 2025, the President admitted that some of the flood control projects in the country failed. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano even claimed that it’s the first time he heard a president blaming in his SONA a flood control project for the flooding in the country.

The country recently faced the wrath of the Southwest Monsoon and typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong. Marcos Jr. revealed that the government already spent over P500 billion for the flood control projects in the country from July 2022 until May 2025.

According to the President, out of the enormous amount spent by the government for the flood control projects, P52.57 billion was spent for the 1,058 flood control projects in the National Capital Region. P98.01 billion was spent for 1,617 projects in Region III and P49.61 billion for 866 projects in Region V.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero confirmed that one of the flood control project contractors mentioned by Marcos Jr. gave him P30 million as campaign donation in 2022. According to him, the owner of the Centerways Construction and Development Inc. is a friend of him and is from Sorsogon, too.

Despite the recent updates about the flood control projects in the country, based on a report on Inquirer, Marcos Jr.’s trust and confidence in public works and highways secretary Manuel Bonoan remains. Even Escudero stressed that the President clarified that he’s not having allegations for exposing the contractors who got 20% of the government deals for flood control.

In a press con, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero called his publicized link to the flood control project contractor “malicious” and allegedly part of a demolition job against him. According to him, there are people who are after his ouster for the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

“Tila nagkakatotoo na ‘yung mga sinabi ko nitong nagdaang Linggo na merong demolition PR job na nakatuon laban sa akin at tulad ng babala ng isang kapwa ko senador na ito’y gagawin upang tiyakin na maalis ako sa pwesto at nang pag pinayl muli daw ‘yung impeachment ay wala na ako dito pagdating ng February 6, matagal pa ‘yun,” the Senate Chief said.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero further claimed that the Centerways Construction allegedly got only P5.4 billion from the government deals for flood control which he cited as not even 1% of the country’s total spending for the flood control projects.

“Wala pang isang porsyento ng kabuuang sinabi ng Pangulo sa flood control. Bakit pinagtuonan ng pansin ‘yun? Yung 1% pa talaga, hindi ‘yung 99%?” he said.

Escudero stressed that he is not a contractor and he has not been into any construction business. Aside from revealing the total spending of the government for the flood control projects, Pres. Bongbong Marcos assured that his administration will probe five (5) contractors with flood control projects in almost all regions in the country.
