Teacher Lost His Life After Being Shot by Student Over Failing Grade
A male teacher in Lanao del Sur has lost his life after being shoot by his student outside the school over failing grade.
On the morning of Monday (August 4, 2025), a well-loved teacher lost his life in a tragic shooting inside the campus of Balabagan Trade School in Barangay Narra.
The educator identified as Danilo Barba was about to enter the school when he was suddenly confronted by a Grade 11 student, known as “Kaizer,” just 20 years old. The young man had been upset over receiving a failing grade in one of Barba’s subjects.
Kaizer blocked the teacher’s path and fired at him with a .45 caliber pistol, striking him in the head. Barba died instantly, leaving colleagues, students, and neighbors in shock.
After the shooting, the suspect fled to Marogong, seeking shelter at a relative’s home. But with the help of his older brother, a police officer, he surrendered to the authorities the next day.
Investigators later learned that Barba was not the only teacher who had given Kaizer a failing grade, but the suspect admitted his anger was focused solely on Barba. Police are looking into whether there were deeper issues between them before the tragedy.
The incident has left an empty space in the hearts of those who knew Barba, remembered as a hardworking and dedicated educator. Amid the tragedy, police and soldiers have been assigned to guard the school to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The incident reminds the public of how unchecked anger can lead to irreversible consequences, leaving behind nothing but sorrow.
