Filipina Inventor Launches Disaster Alert App to Help Communities Stay Safe

DRRM has launched a new disaster mobile app called Alerto PH, which was developed by a Pinay inventor.

A Filipina innovator has created a new mobile app called Alerto PH, designed to help people stay informed and safe during disasters. The app aims to send real-time alerts and notifications in times of emergencies such as fires, floods, earthquakes, and theft.

Cristina Macaraig, the mind behind the app, worked closely with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and Tuya Smart, a global AI cloud service provider.

Alerto PH can be connected to safety devices like smoke detectors, gas alarms, fire alarms, flood sensors, and even CCTVs. When danger is detected, the app can automatically alert both the property owner and the nearest emergency responders—even if no one is able to call for help.

The system also uses AI, remote sensing, and data collection tools to assist local government units (LGUs) in responding faster and more accurately to incidents in their areas.

Cristina Macaraig is a cum laude graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Advertising Arts. She spent 10 years working in the U.S., where she gained experience in software development and product marketing.

The Pinay inventor later returned to the Philippines and became involved in tech projects with LGUs and non-profit groups. Eventually, she founded Wiredfield Philippines Inc., a startup that helps communities prepare for disasters through technology.

Wiredfield is registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and aims to build safer, more resilient communities.

During a DOST conference held from July 14 to 16 in Pasay City, Macaraig shared that pilot testing of Alerto PH is ongoing in Quezon City and Tagaytay. Their goal is to roll out the app to at least 100 LGUs by the end of 2025.
