Farmer in Batangas Shocked After Cow Gives Birth to Two-Headed Calf

Two-Headed Calf Born in Batangas Surprises Local Farmer

A farmer from Taysan, Batangas was left in shock after his cow gave birth to a two-headed calf.

A two-headed calf is a rare animal born with two heads on one body. This condition is called polycephaly, and when an animal has two heads, it’s specifically known as bicephaly or dicephaly.

In most cases, the two heads share one body but may have separate brains, faces, or even partial control of limbs. It happens due to abnormal development of the embryo, often when a fertilized egg tries to split into twins but doesn’t fully separate.

Recently, Resting Ramos, who has been raising cows for over 50 years, noticed something unusual on the day one of his cows was about to give birth. Hours passed, but the calf still hadn’t come out. Worried about the cow’s condition, he decided to call for help.

Agricultural Officer Tito Ortega from the Department of Agriculture responded to the call. Upon arrival, he saw that the mother cow was already weak and unable to stand. After checking the situation, he realized that the calf’s head was unusually large, making it hard for the cow to deliver naturally. They tied the calf and carefully pulled it out.

Everyone was surprised when they saw the newborn calf had two heads. The rare incident quickly caught the attention of both locals and agricultural officers.

Unfortunately, the calf did not survive. It passed away shortly after birth and was immediately buried by the farmer and officials.

According to experts, this kind of birth is extremely rare and is considered a genetic anomaly. Cows, like most animals, usually give birth to healthy single calves. Cases like this often happen due to irregular cell development during pregnancy.

Although the incident saddened the farmer, he remains thankful that the mother cow is slowly recovering. The two-headed calf has sparked curiosity and sympathy among residents who had never seen anything like it before.
