DepEd OKs P24,000 Annual Subsidy for Eligible Teachers in Private Schools

DepEd Increases Annual Subsidy for Private School Teachers Starting S.Y. 2025-2026

DEPED – The Department of Education approved the P24,000 annual subsidy for eligible teachers in private schools.

Education remains at the center of the priorities of the government as confirmed by the President himself during the Marcos 2025 SONA. Pres. Bongbong Marcos announced that the laptops for the public school teachers have arrived and the Filipinos can expect more classrooms to be built in the remaining three (3) of his term.

During his 4th State of the Nation Address, Pres. Bongbong Marcos also vowed that the public school teachers will receive extra pay for their overtime work and their excess workload. He also promised that the government will digitize the schools through Smart TVs, Bayanihan SIM cards with free load, and free WiFi.

According to him, more than 60,000 new teaching positions were created since the start of his administration. However, most of the benefits mentioned by the President are directed to the teachers under the DepEd. Meanwhile, there is a good news for private school teachers.

Based on a report on GMA News, starting school year 2025-2026, eligible private school teachers will receive an annual subsidy of P24,000. DepEd approved the P6,000 increase from the previous subsidy rate of P18,000.

The P24,000 annual subsidy for the eligible private school teachers under the Teachers’ Salary Subsidy (TSS) component of the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) program.

Based on the report, the DepEd approval of the raise in the annual subsidy of eligible private school teachers was through an ad referendum by the State Assistance Council, the body that oversees the policy of GASTPE.

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara formally announced the increase in the subsidy for eligible private school teachers during the ceremonial signing event held on Thursday. He stressed that the government recognizes the private school teachers as critical partners in the broader education field.

“Sa mga tumutok sa ika-apat na State of the Nation Address ni Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr., malinaw na nakita natin—nasa rurok ng kanyang mga prayoridad ang edukasyon,” the DepEd Chief said.

Angara noted that “education is a collective mission”. With regards to qualification for the TSS, here are the eligibility requirements:

  • licensed
  • employed full-time in a participating private school
  • handles ESC classes for at least three hours per week
