3 Young Men Smoking Suspected ‘Black Cigarette’ in Palawan Suddenly Collapsed
Three young men suddenly collapsed after smoking a suspected ‘Black Cigarette’ in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
A disturbing incident left three young men shaking uncontrollably after reportedly smoking what they described as a black-colored cigarette.
On July 19, 2025 (Saturday), locals found the three males in distress along the side of the road. One of them kicked over a parked motorcycle while shaking violently, seemingly unable to control his movements.
The two others were already lying on the ground, unconscious or barely responsive.
All three were immediately brought to the hospital for medical attention. According to reports, two of them are minors. They told authorities that the uncontrollable shaking started shortly after they smoked the black cigarette.
Although they were confused and weak, they agreed to submit samples for testing to help determine what substance they may have inhaled. The test results are still pending.
Local authorities have formed a special task group to investigate the matter. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said that while they haven’t received an official report from the Palawan Police yet, similar incidents involving black cigarettes have been brought to their attention before.
Based on initial findings, this kind of cigarette is believed to originate from Vietnam and is known to contain unusually high levels of nicotine.
The incident has raised concern among residents, especially as two of the victims are underage. Investigators are now working to trace the source of the mysterious cigarette and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Parents and communities are being reminded to stay alert and to guide young people away from unfamiliar or suspicious substances that could harm their health.
