Coffin Carried Through Raging Flood in Laurel, Batangas

A coffin was carried across strong floodwaters just to lay their loved ones to rest in Laurel, Batangas.

Several grieving residents were forced to carry a coffin through a raging flood in Batangas. The scene happened at the spillway in Barangay Poblacion, where floodwater rushed over the pathway after heavy rains.

The group carefully shouldered the coffin and bravely crossed the flooded spillway, making their way to the cemetery located in Barangay Bugaan on the other side of the river. With vehicles unable to pass due to the high water, this was their only option.

The spillway had become the community’s main crossing point after the original bridge was destroyed by Typhoon Kristine back in October 2024. Since then, the people of Laurel have struggled, especially during bad weather, when the spillway turns into a dangerous route.

Residents are growing more concerned about their safety. Each time it rains heavily, they worry about how they’ll get to school, work, or even attend emergencies like this funeral. Crossing floodwaters while carrying a loved one’s remains was not only difficult but also painful for the grieving family.

Locals are appealing to authorities for help. They hope that the issue with the damaged bridge can finally be addressed. For them, it’s more than just an inconvenience, it’s a risk that puts lives in danger, especially during storms.

The residents are asking for a long-term solution before another tragedy happens, with typhoons and floods happening more frequently. They believe that with proper attention from local officials, a safer and more reliable bridge can be rebuilt for the sake of the entire community.
