DANTE PH – Here’s An Update From PAGASA

One of the two low pressure areas becomes Dante PH, and here’s an update.

DANTE PH – The pressure area spotted east of Aurora developed into a tropical depression, and here’s an update from PAGASA.

While the country is battling the heavy and continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, two low pressure areas (LPAs) have been observed inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

An LPA was spotted based on all available data, east of southeastern Luzon, while another LPA was spotted east of Calayan, Cagayan. They can possibly develop into tropical depressions, and recently, based on the 5 PM update from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), one of them that was spotted east of Aurora is now a tropical depression, which will be called “Dante.”

At 4 PM, Dante’s center was at 1,115 km East Northeast of Central Luzon or 1,130 km East of Northern Luzon (18.3°N, 132.4°E). It has a maximum sustained wind of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and a central pressure of 1000 hPa, moving north-northwestward at 20 km/h.

As of the posting, no tropical cyclone wind signals were in effect.

Based on the update, the southwest monsoon is enhanced by Dante, the Low Pressure Area east of Batanes, and Tropical Cyclone WIPHA over Vietnam.

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:

  • Today: Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Visayas, and Dinagat Islands
  • Tomorrow (23 July): Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Camiguin, and Dinagat Islands.
  • Thursday (24 July): Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte Camiguin, and Dinagat Islands.

According to the forecast, Dante will move “northward or north northwestward over the Philippine Sea from tonight to tomorrow (23 July), before turning northwestward towards the Ryukyu Islands and the East China Sea.” It will exit PAR on Thursday or Friday.

Dante may develop into a tropical storm tomorrow, July 23, based on the post.
