PDRRMO Says Nearly 1,000 Families Evacuated in Cagayan Due to Severe Flooding

Nearly 1,000 families were forced to evacuate in Cagayan as heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Crising caused severe flooding in several towns.

On Saturday morning (July 19, 2025), the Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said that around 945 families, or over 3,000 individuals have evacuated due to Severe Tropical Storm Crising.

Just a day earlier, many areas were hit with continuous and strong rains that led to rivers overflowing and flash floods, especially in places like Baggao. In Sitio Marus, Barangay Hacienda Intal, floodwaters rushed through homes, as seen in a video shared by a resident.

The water inside one house reached knee level, prompting families to scramble and save what they could.

Several roads were flooded, and multiple bridges became impassable. Among those affected were the Tallang, Agaman Proper, Bagunot, San Isidro-Taytay, Bitag Pequeño, and Mocag Bridges.

As floodwaters began to recede, local authorities immediately started clearing mud and debris to reopen the roads and bridges. However, the approach to the Sitio Marus bridge suffered minor damage.

In Calayan, the weather has started to improve, but authorities are still not allowing fishermen to go out to sea as a safety precaution.

According to the latest report, 33 barangays across nine towns in Cagayan experienced flooding. A landslide also occurred in Sta. Praxedes, covering part of the Cabugao Road. Clearing operations are underway to restore access.

In Tuguegarao City, officials are closely monitoring the Cagayan River, which remains at a normal level despite the recent heavy rains. Still, there is concern it may rise due to water runoff from neighboring provinces.
