Baguio City: Big Boulder Rolled Down Crushing Car and House

A big boulder in Baguio City from the mountain went downhill and crushed objects.

Due to continuous rain, a big boulder from the mountain has rolled down, killing a pet dog and crushing a house and a car.

Due to the continuous rain brought by habagat intensified by Crising, which is now in severe tropical storm category, the lands have softened and landslides have been triggered. Several parts of Metro Manila were flooded, and recently, in Baguio City, people were shocked and concerns were raised after a big boulder of rock rolled down in speed, destroying a house and a car, and killing a pet dog.

This happened on Kennon Road, Camp 7, during heavy rain.

According to Charles Bryan Carame, officer-in-charge of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, nobody got hurt except for the dog that was hit by the boulder instantly. The Baguio City District Engineering Office and barangay officials are working together to remove the boulder that halted after it crushed a car.

The property owners were taken to the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office for assistance.

Currently, Kennon Road remains closed due to “continuous rockfall at the entrance of the rockshed.”

Crising triggered landslides, leading to some roads being closed for safety reasons. People are directed to alternate routes to and from Baguio City via Marcos Highway and Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road.

The Itogon-Dalupirip Road in Barangay Tinongdan, Itogon, Benguet, was shut down as well due to a landslide. The Abra-Ilocos Norte Road in Nagaparan, Danglas, Abra, the Claveria-Calanasan Road in Barangay Eva, Calanasan, Apayao, and the Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road in Barangay Namaltugan, Calanasan, also still closed.

Crising, on the other hand, exits PAR, but is still under close monitoring.
