Pregnant Woman and Pet Dog Died After Being Struck by Falling Coconut Tree
A pregnant woman and her pet dog lost their lives after being struck by a falling coconut tree in Malita, Davao Occidental.
On Thursday afternoon (July 17, 2025), a 9-month pregnant woman lost her life after being hit by a falling coconut tree. The incident happened in Barangay Ticulon while she was doing laundry near a stream.
Reports from local authorities say the woman was washing clothes in a tubod, or natural flowing water, when the tree suddenly fell. It was an unexpected accident that took her life instantly.
Her pet dog, who was nearby at the time, also died after being struck by the same tree.
Witnesses shared that the woman had tried to save her 3-year-old child by pushing the child away from danger. Thankfully, the child was unharmed, but the mother didn’t make it. She ended up being struck by a heavy tree.
The grief-stricken husband was seen in tears, holding his wife’s lifeless body, as shown in a photo released by the local police. The pain of losing not just his partner, but also their unborn child, was beyond words.
The woman was already expecting to give birth at any moment. The incident has left the entire community in mourning. Neighbors, family, and friends are coming together to support the grieving husband and child, who are now left to face life without a mother and wife.
Authorities are continuing to remind the public to be cautious during the rainy season, especially in areas with large trees that may suddenly fall due to strong winds or soft ground.
