Amid Pres. Bongbong Marcos and the Philippine government being heavily-criticized over Duterte’s arrest and the transfer of his custody to the ICC, Sen. Imee Marcos sided with the Dutertes. According to her, she cannot accept what was done to the former President.

Malacañang previously insisted that Marcos Jr. did not commit betrayal over Duterte’s arrest. According to the Palace, the government only did its job. The President and the Palace also claimed that the PH government acted on the arrest of the former Chief Executive in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

Sen. Imee Marcos launched a Senate investigation over former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest. She also left the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago senatorial slate that was endorsed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Amid her rift with the Chief Executive, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte endorsed the presidential sister.

During her visit in The Hague, Sen. Imee Marcos led the call for Duterte’s return hoping it will reach Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Recently, she also expressed her hope that the Chief Executive will sign the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election or the BSKE Bill.

According to the Senator, the BSKE Bill was finally transmitted to Malacañang. She claimed that it seems that the bill might have stopped somewhere. The presidential sister called on her brother to sign the proposed measure.

“Ayan na! Na-transmit na sa wakas kay PBBM! Ang tagal bago makarating, parang tumambay pa kung saan. Kaya, bekenemen, pirmahan na ‘yan!” she said.

Based on the report, the House of Representatives transmitted the bill to the Senate on July 10. On July 15, the proposed measure was transmitted to Malacañang. According to Sen. Imee Marcos, it is unusual that it took long for a bill to get there. She stressed that the work in the Senate is long done.

“Anim na buwan na silang nakaabang. Karapatan nilang malaman kung hanggang kailan sila sa pwesto. Ang tagal-tagal na, oras na para tuparin ang batas,” she said.

Sen. Imee Marcos further stressed that what is important is the BSKE Bill turns into a law whether or not Pres. Bongbong Marcos will sign it. According to her, it should be done to clear everything. The President has 30 days from the day of receiving the bill to either sign or veto the bill. After it, it will lapse into a law.

During her speech in the proclamation of winning senators, Sen. Imee Marcos made no mention of Pres. Bongbong Marcos but acknowledged former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
