Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Issues Message for Filipinos on National Disaster Resilience Month
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President issued a message on National Disaster Resilience Month which cited the approach of the Duterte administration for calamity preparedness.
This month, the Philippines is celebrating the National Disaster Resilience Month. The country is one of the nations that is usually hit by calamities most especially typhoons. Every day, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of Phivolcs also record several incidents of earthquake occurrences.

As the country celebrates the National Disaster Resilience Month, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte released a message for the Filipino people. In a video message posted on her official Facebook page, the Vice President cited that the country is prone to typhoons.
Duterte stressed that the Philippines faces more than 20 typhoons annually and the storms last year were stronger. According to her, the typhoons this year are “unpredictable” because of the increasing impacts of climate change.

In her message for the National Disaster Resilience Month, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte recalled the approach of the previous administration for disaster resilience. According her, the admin of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte “shifted its approach from mere disaster awareness to actively-building disaster resilience”.

Vice Pres. Duterte stressed that it is the country’s priority to make sure that the communities are prepared and ready to respond to the calamities to avoid the loss of lives and widespread destruction of properties due to natural calamities. She stressed that the country’s preparedness against calamities is the foundation of our strength as a nation.
“Ang ating kahandaan laban sa mga kalamidad ay ang pundasyon ng ating lakas bilang isang bansa. Magtatagumpay tayo kung tutulong tayo sa pag siguro na ang bawat pamilya sa ating mga komunidad ay may sapat na kaalaman hingil sa mga sakuna,” she said.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also spoke about the tree planting campaign of her office — Office of the Vice President’s PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees Campaign. According to her, last year, they have planted more than 300,000 trees under the campaign and they create national shields from landslides and floods.
The Vice President calls on every Filipino to “become proactive stewards of their communities”. She cited the following ways:
- Plant trees and join our organized clean-up drives.
- Turn on NDRRMC alerts.
- Build your family’s emergency kit.
- Join earthquake drills.
- Know your nearest evacuation center.
- Share awareness posts.
“Your stories could save lives and inspire others to prepare. Mas marami pa tayong magagawa sa ating pakikipagtulungan sa isa’t isa,” the Vice President said in the post.
According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, through our work and preparation, there is a promise of a safe and strong future that we can pass on to the next generation. She called on the Filipinos to love the country for God, for the nation, and for the Filipino families.
Currently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is faced with an impeachment case. The Senate impeachment court has previously returned the Articles of Impeachment against her to the House of Representatives.
