Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano Urges PH Gov’t To Call for Duterte ICC Interim Release Approval
ALAN PETER CAYETANO – The Senator filed a resolution seeking the house arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Former Pres. Duterte is detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for more than 100 days now. He is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity over the war on drugs of his administration.

The Duterte siblings have all visited the former President at the ICC detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands where he is detained. His common-law wife, Honeylet Avanceña, and ex-wife Elizabeth Zimmerman have also visited the former President inside the ICC detention facility.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s ex-wife even shared that he lost a lot of weight resulting to being “skin and bones” already. The former Chief Executive lost his appetite and does not like the repetitive foods served inside the detention facility.

The camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has sought his interim release from the ICC detention facility. According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, considering her father’s age, not all his needs can be provided inside the ICC detention facility.

The Vice President even claimed that the 80-year-old former President can be called “super senior” citizen. According to her, with an interim release, there can be a nurse or a caregiver to take better care of him.
Recently, known Duterte ally Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano filed a resolution in the Senate urging the Philippine government to call on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to approve the interim release bid of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a report on PhilStar, he wants house arrest for the former Chief Executive.

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano was the secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) during the term of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. They were running mates in the 2016 Elections but he lost to former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo.
Based on the report, in the resolution, Cayetano stated that Duterte should “be afforded the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty”. He proposed for the house arrest of Duterte at the Philippine Embassy in The Hague while waiting for the trial.
Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano cited former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s old age, deteriorating health, and prolonged isolation from the public in the resolution seeking for his ICC interim release and house arrest. He appealed for courtesy for the former President.
“The least the Philippines could do for its former leader is to advocate for his release and make the necessary arrangements to accommodate him,” the Senator wrote.
According to Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, denying former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte of time with his family in his twilight years is allegedly “injustice”. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte wants cremation if he dies during his ICC detention in a foreign country.
