Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Visits Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Inside ICC Detention Facility

RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former President wants cremation of his remains if he dies during his detention in The Netherlands.

Former Pres. Duterte was arrested by the Philippine authorities last March 11. His custody was immediately transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands where he is currently detained for over 100 days now.

Duterte celebrated his 80th birthday inside the ICC detention facility last March 28. His youngest daughter, Kitty Duterte, wished his dad Rody “good health” as he turned 80. His family members are taking turns in visiting the former President.

Currently, the camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has previously asked for his ICC interim release to an undisclosed country. According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, considering the age of her father, not all his needs can be met inside the ICC detention facility.

Vice Pres. Duterte also said that her father can be called a “super senior” citizen for his age now. They believe that he can be taked cared of better if there could be a nurse or a caregiver for him.

Currently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is in The Hague, Netherlands for scheduled visits to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, speaking at an interview in The Hague, the Vice President revealed the last wish of his father if he dies during his detention inside the ICC detention facility.

According to VP Sara, the former President wants his remains to be cremated in The Netherlands if he dies during his ICC detention. He no longer wants his body to be brought home in the Philippines — only ashes.

“Sabi niya, kung mamatay daw siya dito sa Netherlands, ‘wag na daw iuwi ‘yung kanyang katawan sa Pilipinas. Ipa-cremate lang daw siya dito, ‘yung ashes na lang daw ang iuwi,” the Vice President said.

Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said she just told former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte that they will just discuss it again next tim as she is against cremation while he supports it. When asked what she felt when her father made the remark, the Vice President said it is “natural” for someone of his age to think about such.

“Mabuti na rin ‘yun na alam natin lahat kung ano ‘yung kanyang last wishes para magagawa ‘yun kapag nangyari,” she added.

Previously, the ex-wife of the former President, Elizabeth Zimmerman, revealed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is so thin now to the extent of just “skin and bones”. According to her, he has lost his appetite as he is served the same foods inside the ICC detention facility.
