Atong Ang In Missing Sabungeros Case: Businessman’s Camp Says “Totoy Lacks Credibility

Alias “Totoy” is not credible according to the camp of Atong Ang.

According to the whistleblower, Atong Ang is the mastermind, but in a statement, the businessman’s camp says Totoy lacks credibility.

“Si Mr. Atong Ang siya ang chairman ng pitmaster, siya ang pinaka mastermind at siya ang nag uutos na iligpit ang mga ‘yan.”

Atong Ang

This is what Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, the whistleblower, said. He alleged that Atong Ang is the mastermind in the case of the missing sabungeros or cockfight enthusiasts, and Gretchen Barretto is also involved in the disappearances.

These people are accordingly dead already. In this case, two whistleblower stepped forward, and they are Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, alias “Totoy,” and Alan Bantiles, alias “Brown.”

After being tagged as the mastermind, Ang’s camp released a statement to “categorically and unequivocally” deny the allegations that are “entirely false, baseless, and malicious.”

It added that these two just “conspired to commit attempted robbery with violence and intimidation, grave threat, grave coercion, incriminating against innocent persons and slander” against Ang and their claims have tarnished his dignity and reputation.

In a News5 interview on Wednesday, July 2, Ang’s legal counsel, Lorna Kapunan, expressed that Totoy is not allowed to serve as a state witness as he is allegedly “directly responsible” for the abductions. The Department of Justice is taking the wrong lead.

How can one become a state witness? Based on Section 17, Rule 119 of the Rules of Criminal Procedure states how an accused can become a state witness:

a) There is an absolute necessity for the accused’s testimony;
b) There is no other direct evidence available for proper prosecution;
c) The testimony can be substantially corroborated on material points;
d) The accused does not appear to be the most guilty; and
e) The accused has not been previously convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.
