Reaction of PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III on Remarks of VP Sara Duterte over Increasing Police Visibility

PNP CHIEF – Philippine National Police chief General Nicolas Torre III extended an invitation to Vice President Sara Duterte to visit Camp Crame to see the technology procured for increased police visibility.

The previous administration which was under the lead of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is known for its war on drugs. However, it was a controversial anti-drugs campaign as it was linked to the deaths of many suspects. The former President is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands.

Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos confirmed that the government will continue a “bloodless” war against drugs. According to him, individuals suspected of drug involvement will not be killed.

The President also said the government will boost the prevention as well as the rehabilitation who individuals who engage in drug use. According to him, the authorities will not only focus on the big ones in the drug problem but as well as the small cases in the streets.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos said there will be increase police patrols in the fight against illegal drugs so the people will feel safe. However, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has a different view on this matter.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte slammed Pres. Bongbong Marcos saying he should be thinking about how to modernize. According to her, the Filipinos seem to live like in the 1970s with the order to increase police patrols in the streets.

“Dapat ang iniisip mo how to modernize, leverage the technology out there to improve the Philippine Police… Bakit nandoon ka pa din sa ilalagay ko ang pulis sa kanto? Nandoon pa din tayo sa 1970s 1980s na magpatrolya ang pulis sa daan,” Duterte expressed.

Recently, PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III spoke on the issue of utilizing the products of technology for an increased police visibility. Based on a report on PhilStar, the head of the PNP extended an invitation to the Vice President to visit Camp Crame so she would see the technology procured for an increased police visibility.

PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III also recalled that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has allegedly seen the body-worn cameras and drones of the national police during an event at Camp Karingal in Quezon City. Based on the report, then, the Vice President was invited as a guest of honor.

Meanwhile, the PNP Leader took the remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in a positive way. According to Torre, it can help improve the PNP. Previously, new PNP chief Nicolas Torre III vowed that the police will be trustworthy under his lead.
