Naga Mayor Leni Robredo Gives Speech during Inauguration as Naga City Mayor

LENI ROBREDO – The former Vice President and now Naga Mayor vowed to “purge corruption” in the city after taking her oath.

Former Vice Pres. Robredo won as mayor in Naga City and she is the first female mayor in the city. It was a landslide victory for the former Vice President who is always known as an advocate of transparency in the government.

In 2022, then outgoing Vice Pres Robredo ran for president with former Senator Kiko Pangilinan as her running-mate. Their campaign marked history but they lost in terms of numbers. The Leni-Kiko tandem was managed by former Sen. Bam Aquino.

In the 2025 Midterm Elections, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo as well as former senators Kiko Pangilinan and Bam Aquino emerged as winners in the respective races. Both Pangilinan and Aquino made it into the Senate Magic 12.

Former Vice Pres. Robredo was delighted by the “come-from-behind win” of former senators Aquino and Pangilinan who ranked 2nd and 5th in the 2025 senatorial election results, respectively. She stressed that hope is really alive.

Recently, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo took her oath as mayor of Naga City. She was accompanied by her two (2) daughters, Aika and Jillian Robredo, with her late husband, former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

The former Interior Secretary has also served as mayor of Naga 37 years ago before he led the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the term of the late former Pres. Noynoy Aquino.

During her inauguration as the chief of Naga City, former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo stressed that the budget of the city will be used on essential programs. She expressed that Confidential Funds will be removed from the city’s budget.

“Primarily, we will remove confidential funds from our budget. So expect this to be gone. This sacrifice will be used to ensure that the local government will be efficient, and that it will only reward the employees who are genuinely dedicated in doing their job,” the Naga Mayor said.

According to Naga Mayor Leni Robredo, she will immediately release two (2) executive orders asserting transparent procurement and mass regularization program for employees who are serving the city for 10 years and above now. Based on the report, it is in line with the push for zero tolerance for corruption.

“We will purge corruption here in Naga. There will be no inflated prices, SOP, kickback or acceptance of gifts in exchange of favors,” Robredo said.

Previously, following her win as Naga City Mayor, then Manila mayor-elect Isko Moreno denied having feud with former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo. The actor-turned-politician was among the contenders of Robredo in the 2022 presidential race.
