Man Gets Hit by Passing Vehicle for Suddenly Crossing SLEX

Vehicle Accidentally Hits Man for Suddenly Crossing SLEX

A man gets hit by a passing vehicle for suddenly running across the southbound lane of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

On Thursday (Jun e 26, 2025), a driver was shocked when a man suddenly ran across the southbound lane of SLEX. The incident happened near the Mayapa area in Calamba City, as the driver was heading toward the STAR Tollway.

In the video, a man wearing a green shirt can be seen running across the expressway. The driver, Joseph Dela Rosa, swerved his utility van to the right in an attempt to avoid hitting the man.

While he managed to avoid a direct hit, his side mirror struck the man and broke off. The van wobbled for a few seconds before Dela Rosa was able to safely pull over to the side of the road. When he went back to check on the man, he was surprised to find him standing and seemingly unhurt, with no visible injuries.

It was later discovered that the man is not an SLEX worker, but a 30-year-old scrap collector who searches for leftover metal from construction sites inside the expressway. SLEX patrollers have since taken him into custody, and charges are being prepared against him.

Dela Rosa expressed relief that no one was seriously harmed in the incident. Other drivers are now calling on SLEX management to tighten security and monitoring along the expressway.

The driver says this isn’t the first time someone has been seen dangerously crossing the highway, and stronger measures are needed to prevent future accidents.
