Vice Pres. Sara Duterte clarified her statement saying the Philippines should not lean towards U.S. in its issues with China, just like the territorial dispute over the West Philippine Sea. She stressed that the country must have an independent foreign policy as mandated in the 1987 Constitution.
According to the Vice President, the ties of the Philippines with U.S. and its relation with China must be two (2) separate engagements. Duterte also claimed that the Marcos Jr. administration is allegedly leaning towards the U.S. and antagonizing China.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte junked the claim of Malacañang that she and her family are allegedly “pro-China”. According to the Vice President, she does not favor any country at all.

Recently, Malacañang press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro spoke anew on the remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, when asked about Duterte’s recent statements, the Palace official cited the alleged actions of a true Filipino.
“Ang tunay na Pilipino, umaawit ng Lupang Hinirang na may dangal. Sinasambit ang mga katagang, ‘Ang mamatay nang dahil sa ‘yo,'” Castro said.

Based on the report, the Malacañang official also cited the famous line of the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, about the love for one’s language. She also raised a question about a leader who admitted to not loving her own country.
“Sabi nga po ni Dr. Jose Rizal, ‘Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay masahol pa sa hayop at malansang isda. Paano pa kaya ang isang Pilipino at isang lider na umaming hindi mahal ang kaniyang sariling bansa, ano kaya ang kanilang amoy? Iyon lang po,” the Palace official expressed.
Atty. Claire Castro stressed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is “pro-Philippines”. According to the Malacañang official, the Chief Executive “will not yield even an inch of our territory”.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte called herself as the “frontrunner” of the 2028 election for president, thus, the Marcos administration allegedly wants her out.
