President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. flew and left the country on Thursday to attend the World Expo 2025, and he is set to go back over the weekend. While the country’s chief is away, it is expected that the vice president will take over the leadership role.
However, Vice President Sara Duterte also left the Philippines for Australia. According to the Office of the Vice President, she travelled to Australia for another personal trip a week after she came home from Malaysia. During her trip in Malaysia, she attended a Philippine Independence Day celebration and joined a program consultation with overseas Filipino workers.
She will join the rally in Australia for the release of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained in The Hague. She will join the “Free Duterte Now” rally on Sunday, June 22, in Melbourne.
The former president has already made an initial appearance before the ICC judges. The three female judges are Judge Iulia Antoanella Motoc, Judge Reine Adélaïde Sophie Alapini-Gansou, and Judge María del Socorro Flores Liera.
While the president and the vice president are away, who are the caretakers of the country?
Before leaving, the president assigned Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III, and Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara as the country’s caretakers.
Marcos is going to Japan, and part of his itinerary is to meet the Filipino community in Japan.
On Friday, he already met with representatives from the Japan Tourism Agency, Japan Association of Travel Agents, and the Japan-Philippines Tourism Council to discuss tourism opportunities, including the privatization of NAIA and other regional airports.
