Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Calls Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte ‘Super Senior Citizen’
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President spoke on the interim release bid of his father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
For more than three (3) months now since he was arrested last March 11, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte remains under the detention of the International Criminal Court (ICC). He is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands.

Previously, the lawyer of former Pres. Duterte, Nicholas Kaufman, confirmed that they are working on his interim release bid. The confirmation of charges against the former President is scheduled on September 23.
Duterte is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity over the war on drugs led by the government during his term as president of the Philippines. Amid his detention, he maintained that everything he did was for the country and the Filipino people.

Recently, it was confirmed that the camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has formally asked the ICC for his interim release. In their request, it was reportedly stated that a country was willing to take in the former President during his interim release. However, Duterte’s camp did not name the said country.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte broke her silence on the interim release bid of her father to the ICC. Based on a report on PhilStar, the Vice President cited the age of her father. According to her, not all the needs of the 80-year-old former President can be met inside the ICC detention facility.

“For me, it will be beneficial for him as he is already 80 years old. Not all his needs as an 80-year-old can be provided inside the ICC detention unit,” the younger Duterte said.
Furthermore, based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is the first ICC detainee of his age. According to her, the interim release of her father would be better for him as there would be nurses and caregivers who can assist him.
“He is the first ICC detainee with such age. He is not only a senior, he can be called super senior since he is 80 years old. It is better to allow his interim release so that available nurses and caregivers will be available to assist him,” the Vice President said.
Previously, Malacañang was asked to comment on a possible interim release bid of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte before the ICC.
