Lady Teacher Sets Up Classroom Pantry to Support Her Students
A lady teacher from Iligan City has earned praises after creating a “classroom pantry” inside her advisory classroom for her Grade 10 students.
Recently, Melanie Figueroa shared photos of the classroom pantry for her advisory class. She wanted to support her students and ease the burden on their parents. The post earned public admiration.
The classroom pantry is filled with various school supplies such as paper, pens, staplers, and other materials that students often need. Most of these items were sent to her by friends living abroad through balikbayan boxes.

Teacher Melanie’s goal is to support her students and help ease the financial burden on their parents.
Figueroa explained that students are encouraged to return the items after using them, but some unintentionally take them home. Because of this, she regularly restocks the pantry to ensure that her students always have access to what they need.
One of the most requested items by her students is a big stapler, which she finds both amusing and touching.

Melanie warmly welcomed her advisory class, Grade 10 Spain Batch 2025-2026, with the hope that the school year will be filled with growth, purpose, and meaningful memories.
The educator’s effort did not go unnoticed. She was recently awarded the “Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Act” recognition by the Office of the Ombudsman in Northern Mindanao under their HIP program, which honors individuals who promote honesty, integrity, and public accountability.

Beyond the classroom pantry, Figueroa is also known for leading several programs such as “Laptop Para sa Pangarap” and “Adopt-a-Student,” all aimed at helping young learners achieve their dreams.
