Former OFW Upset After Pawnshops Refuse to Accept Gold Ring Bought Abroad

A former OFW gets upset after several pawnshops in the country refused to accept a gold ring he bought abroad.

Recently, Andy ACT, a Facebook user, has expressed disappointment online after several pawnshops in the Philippines refused to accept a gold ring he bought while working abroad. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.

According to Andy, he purchased the gold ring overseas for over P20,000 when converted to the current exchange rate. He considered pawning it during a financial emergency, thinking it would be easy since the ring had a 916 stamp, which usually indicates 21k or 22k gold.

However, things didn’t go as expected. When he visited a pawnshop, the appraiser asked about the ring’s origin. After finding out it was bought abroad, the staff inspected it further but eventually declined to accept it.

The pawnshop employee said it felt unusually heavy and made a different sound compared to standard gold. They also mentioned that they would need to drill into the ring to check its inner material, which is not typically done during normal appraisal.

Hoping for a different outcome, Andy tried going to other pawnshops, but they all gave him the same answer. This left him confused, especially since he bought the ring from a popular gold shop in the UAE, which is famous for selling real gold jewelry.
