VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Returned To House; Who Are In Favor and Not In Favor?

VP SARA DUTERTE IMPEACHMENT – These are the senators who voted and were against returning the articles of impeachment to the House.

With no abstentions, the Senate, sitting as the impeachment court, voted to bring back the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives. This is after Senator Alan Peter Cayetano filed a motion, which specified that returning does not mean dismissal of the case.

Senator Bato Dela Rosa was seeking to dismiss the impeachment proceedings against Duterte; however, this was not recognized. The senator-judges deliberated, and in the discussion, Senator Bong Go introduced the return of the articles of impeachment to the House of Representatives.

This motion from Go moved Cayetano to amend Dela Rosa’s motion, which the latter, later on, agreed with.

Cayetano’s motion seeks to return the articles to the lower chamber without dismissing or terminating the case, until such time that:

The House of Representatives certifies the non-violation of Art. XI, Section 3, paragraph 5 of the Constitution, which provides that “No impeachment proceedings shall be initiated against the same official more than once within a period of one year,”; including the circumstances on the filing of the first three impeachment complaints;
The House of Representatives of the 20th Congress communicates to the Senate that it is willing and ready to pursue the impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
