Nicolas Torre III, New PNP Chief

Based on a post on the Facebook page Nurse Mae Laagan, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte claimed that the promotion of CIDG chief Nicolas Torre III is allegedly not based on his merit. According to the Davao Vice Mayor-elect, favor was allegedly a factor on his appointment as the next PNP chief.

“Anong nangyari? You have a chief PNP na tatlong ranggo ang tinalunan para maging chief PNP. It’s because this is not merit-based promotion. Pabor pabor-based promotion, ‘di ba?” he said based on the post.

Incoming PNP chief Nicolas Torre III is faced with “illegal detention” charges over allegedly “photocopied” Red Notice in the arrest and detention of a businesswoman. His appointment as the next chief of the national police earned different reactions from the people.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte laughed at the promotion of Torre as the next PNP chief. Recently, a ceremony was held in the CIDG for the turn-over of the post of Torre following his appointment as the next PNP chief.
