Press Office of Malacañang Reacts To Claim of Duterte’s Lawyer Nicholas Kaufman
MALACAÑANG – The Palace reacted to the recent statement of Duterte’s lawyer Nicholas Kaufman against President Bongbong Marcos.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands. The former Chief Executive is faced with allegation of crime against humanity over his administration’s war on drugs.

The Duterte camp have foreign lawyers making up the ICC legal team that will defend the former President. Two of the lawyers of the former Chief Executive are British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman and French lawyer Dov Jacobs.
Duterte’s lawyers insist that the ICC is allegedly not in the position to exercise jurisdiction in the Philippines. Kaufman is confident about their jurisdictional argument. According to him, if he will be able to convince the ICC judges that the court has no jurisdiction over the country, there might be no need to get to the confirmation of charges that is set on September 23.

Previously, Kaufman has asked why Duterte is being tried in The Hague and not in the Philippines. He stressed that he is a Filipino citizen — the same sentiment asserted by the countless supporters of the former President in the country and in abroad.
Previously, Duterte’s lawyer accused Pres. Bongbong Marcos as allegedly the “real prosecutor” of the former President. He claimed that the former Chief Executive’s “Real Prosecutor” is sitting in Malacañang Palace.

Recently, Malacañang reacted to the claim of Duterte’s lawyer Nicholas Kaufman. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro asked if it was former presidential spokesman Harry Roque who is making a comment.
“Is that you, Atty. Harry Roque, talking? You thought it was Atty. Harry Roque making such comment,” Castro said.
The former presidential spokesman is currently in The Hague. The Department of Justice (DOJ) wants the cancellation of the passport of Harry Roque amid an arrest warrant issued against him by a local court in the country.

Based on the report, Castro believes that Nicholas Kaufman, Duterte’s lawyer, is allegedly surrounded by people who spread disinformation. According to the Malacañang press officer, the British-Israeli lawyer allegedly does not know the facts of the case.
“Well, anyway, it is very apparent and very obvious that Atty. Kaufman is being surrounded by fake news peddlers. He doesn’t know the timeline; he doesn’t know the facts of the case,” the Palace official expressed.
Atty. Claire Castro stressed that lawyer Nicholas Kaufman should focus on his job as a counsel and “not in engaging in rumor-mongering”. Recently, it was reported that presidential sister and reelected Senator Imee Marcos met with Duterte’s lawyer in The Hague in the pursuit to “bring Duterte home”.
Lawyers are PAID to make the guilty look innocent. It’s their job. Money talks. 😁😁😁
