The Teveses and the Degamos are political rivals in the province. Gov. Roel Degamo defeated Pryde Henry Teves, the brother of Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves, in the gubernatorial race. The Congressman was already in abroad when his name was implicated in the case.
