DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla Claims Pres. Bongbong Marcos Already Chosen Next PNP Chief
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President has already chosen the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief according to Interior Secretary Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
The Philippine National Police is currently led by Police General Rommel Marbil. He’s faced with a compulsory retirement at the age of 56 but Pres. Marcos extended his term by four (4) months.

The extension of the term of Marbil as the PNP chief is set to expire on June 7. Recently, amid the courtesy resignations of the Cabinet secretaries of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the Chief Executive has chosen a new person to lead the PNP after the retirement of Marbil.
The statement is according to Department of Interior and Local Government Sec. Jonvic Remulla. Based on a report on GMA News, the Interior Secretary has many good words for PBBM’s choice for next PNP chief.

However, based on the report, DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla refused to name the pick of Pres. Bongbong Marcos as the next PNP chief. He stressed that Marcos Jr.’s choice is “excellent, very qualified, very dynamic” and has a “good track record”.

Previously, PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño previously said the following individuals are the people who are qualified to be the next leader of the Philippine National Police:
- Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the deputy chief for administration of the PNP
- Lieutenant General Robert Rodriguez, the deputy chief for operations of the PNP
- Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
- Lieutenant General Edgar Alan Okubo, the chief of the directorial staff of the PNP
- Police Major General Anthony Aberin, chief of National Capital Region Police Office
Based on the report, DILG sec. Jonvic Remulla also expressed his hope for a “continuing vision” among those who will lead the PNP as he cited that a PNP chief usually has a term of a little more than a year. He stressed that there are usually different directives, vision, and mission statement every day.
“Ang nangyayari kasi sa atin, a tenure of a chief PNP will only last one year, a little more than one year. Kailangan natin merong continuing vision na may buy-in ng lahat ng PNP as the years go by,” Remulla said.
Interior Sec. Jonvic Remulla stressed that his goal is for the PNP to have one directive, vision, and mission regardless of who will lead the national police. Malacañang has yet to issue a statement on the choice of Pres. Bongbong Marcos to be the next PNP chief.
Several Cabinet secretaries of Marcos Jr. have tendered their courtesy resignations following the order of the President. DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla has also resigned from his position. As for executive secretary Lucas Bersamin, Marcos Jr. declined his courtesy resignation as to the ES.
