Sen. Imee Marcos Speaks on “Proposal” of Some Senators
IMEE MARCOS – The Senator reelectionist claimed that some senators asked her to seek the Senate presidency in the incoming 20th Congress.
Following the midterm polls, the Commission on Elections or COMELEC made history with the earliest proclamation of the 2025 Senatorial Election winners. The victorious senatorial candidates in the recent election include presidential sister Sen. Marcos who sought a reelection.
Sen. Imee Marcos ranked 12th in the 2025 Senatorial Race. She garnered 13,339,227 votes and was the first senatorial election winner to be proclaimed by the Commission. She was accompanied by her mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and her sons and in-laws at the Proclamation Ceremony.
Marcos was initially part of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago senatorial slate which was endorsed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos. However, following the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the presidential sister decided to leave the team.
Sen. Imee Marcos skipped the Alyansa campaign sorties following Duterte’s arrest until she made her departure from the team official. According to her, the actions of the government over the arrest of the former President do not align with her principles and ideals in life.
Following her victory in the 2025 Senatorial Race, Sen. Imee Marcos claimed that there are some senators who asked her to seek the Senate presidency. Based on a report on GMA News, the Presidential Sister did not disclose her answer to the alleged “proposal”.
“Some senators have approached me with the proposal to be their candidate for Senate President,” she said.
According to Sen. Marcos, whoever will be elected as Senate President in the incoming 20th Congress, there must allegedly be “congressional reforms” that have to be taken. Based on the report, the also emphasized that there is allegedly a need to make reforms in the budgetary process.
Aside from Sen. Imee Marcos, former Senate President and senator-elect Tito Sotto also confirmed that there are talks for him to become the Senate President. He has held the post for several years prior to the end of his 3rd term as senator.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero was reportedly unbothered by Sotto saying that he is open to take the Senate leadership if he has the numbers. Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo recently claimed that he wants to talk to his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, as both Sotto and Escudero allegedly want to talk to him over the Senate presidency.
