Lawyer of VP Sara Duterte Speaks on her Case before the DOJ
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President skipped the second day of the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation over her remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
Aside from her looming impeachment trial, Vice Pres. Duterte is also faced with sedition and grave threats charges before the Department of Justice. The case stemmed from her previous remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
According to Duterte, she has allegedly contracted someone to kill Pres. Marcos, the First Lady, and the House Speaker in the event of her death. Amid her remarks gathering different reactions, the Vice President claimed that her statement was taken out of context.
In April, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte confirmed receiving summons over the case filed by the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation. She expressed that she will appear before the DOJ as she needs to take an oath.
Vice Pres. Duterte went to the DOJ on the first day of the investigation of the sedition and grave threats charges filed against her by the NBI. Her legal counsels are Michael Poa and Paul Lim.
However, recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte skipped the second day of the DOJ investigation over the charges filed by the NBI due to her remarks against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on a report on PhilStar, she was represented by Atty. Michael Poa and Atty. Paul Lim.
Poa explained that Duterte no longer need to personally appear before the DOJ as she has already taken her oath during the first day of the preliminary probe. Based on the report, on the same date, the Vice President has also filed her counter-affidavit to answer the accusations against her.
The lawyer of Duterte further said that it is now the NBI’s turn to respond to the counter-affidavit submitted by the Vice President. Their camp has yet to receive the NBI’s response.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was cited in the family meeting of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s children and grandchildren as they planned for their thanksgiving after multiple election wins.
