Cynthia Villar Loses To City Councilor in Las Piñas District Congressional Bid

Sen. Cynthia Villar Expected Votes of Las Piñeros; Failed To Win Congressional Race

CYNTHIA VILLAR – The Senator lost to a city councilor in her bid for a congressional post comeback in the district of Las Piñas.

Sen. Villar is on her last term in the Senate. This May 2025 Elections, she attempted to switch positions with her daughter, Las Piñas district Representative Camille Villar. The congresswoman has served two terms as congresswoman of the lone district of Las Piñas.

Previously, Sen. Cynthia Villar claimed she is not interested to become a House Speaker amid her bid for a comeback in the congress as Las Piñas district representative. According to her, she just wants to live a simple life.

On the Elections Day, Villar voted at the Las Piñas City National Science High School. She was with her husband, business tycoon and former Senate President Manny Villar. They arrived past 5:00 a.m. and she was impressed by the flow of the election that gave priority to seniors and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In a chance interview after she voted, Sen. Cynthia Villar admitted her expectation that the people in Las Piñas will vote for her. She stressed that she has done so much for the Las Piñeros.

Previously, Villar told the people of Las Piñas that they might consider the land distribution if they won’t get their support. It earned different reactions from netizens as well as known personalities in politics.

Now that the May 2025 Elections are over, the counting of votes are taking place. Based on a report in PhilStar, in Las Piñas, the city’s board of canvassers proclaimed incumbent city councilor Mark Anthony Santos as the winner in the congressional race.

Sen. Cynthia Villar lost to the city councilor after she garnered 83,975 votes compared to the 115,757 votes he got. The Senator has yet to speak on the results of the congressional race.

As for the senatorial bid of Las Piñas district Rep. Camille Villar, her family expects her victory. Villar is endorsed by both President Bongbong Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte amid the rift between the two (2) highest officials in the Philippine government.
