Based on a report on GMA News, Sen. Bato dela Rosa thanked the Duterte supporters for a good standing in the election race results where he ranked third. He stressed that his standing in the survey instantly rose after former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was arrested.

“‘Yung pag-angat natin dito sa results ay talagang it came with a very heavy price at ito ‘yung freedom ni Pangulong Duterte at ito, bigla tayong umangat nang husto sa survey after nila hinuli at ibiniyahe si Pangulong Duterte do’n sa The Hague,” dela Rosa said.

Based on the report, Sen. Bato dela Rosa called the votes for him as “protest votes” from the Duterte supporters who are deeply affected by what happened to the former President. According to him, it was hard as an opposition to campaign like in borrowing helicopter to reach more areas so, instead, he rode his motorcycle to campaign.

“Ito po’y in-attribute ko talaga ‘yung aming kapanalunan sa kinasapitan ni Pangulong Duterte… Ganito kataas ‘yung aming natanggap na boto, these are protest votes coming from the people who are very much aggrieved about what happened to former President Duterte,” the Senator said.

Amid the victory of several PDP-Laban candidates, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte called on the Filipinos to join in the building of a ‘powerful opposition’.
