Riot of Supporters of Opposing Camps in Marawi Caused Voting Delay
Supporters of opposing camps in Marawi City reportedly got involved in a riot as they tried to stop the election.
Today, May 12, is Election Day in the Philippines. Both local and national elections are being held and millions of Filipinos went out of their homes and workplaces to cast their votes. Unfortunately, like in many past elections, there are unfortunate election-related incidents in the different areas in the country.

In this Midterm Elections, in Buluan, former AFP soldiers and ex-rangers were intercepted and found with high-powered firearms. There were also shooting incidents recorded in the different areas around the country.
Recently, another election-incident transpired in Marawi. Based on a post on the Facebook page Bangsamoro News, supporters of opposing camps in Marawi City also got engaged in a riot. The said unfortunate incident reportedly caused delay in the voting.

Based on the post, the supporters of opposing camps in Sagonsongan Area in Marawi City reportedly attempted to stop the elections. Furthermore a poll watcher was found with a masterlist and an illegal document as per the Commission on Elections (Comelec) rules and regulations.

Based on the post, the authorities are currently investigating the incident and the voting is temporarily suspended in the area now. More updates may be posted soon.


Undeniably, every election, tragic incidents transpired in several areas in Mindanao amid the authorities’ pursuit of a safe elections. However, now, not only in Mindanao but as well as in Luzon and Visayas that unfortunate incidents that are probably election-related have taken place.
In Silay City, Negros Occidental, a shooting incident left two (2) people dead and 6 others injured. The tragic shooting incident occurred in Sitio Ipil-Ipil, Barangay Mambulac early today. Both fatalities in the said shooting incident were declared dead on arrival.
