This is what Christian Sia said following his disqualification.
A Commission on Elections (Comelec) division disqualified Pasig City congressional candidate Christian Sia, and here’s what he said about this.
Pasig City lone district representative candidate Christian “Ian” Sia was disqualified by a Commission on Elections division. This decision followed the remarks he had made before the public about single mothers that Comelec’s anti-discrimination panel deemed lewd and discriminatory.

In a previous article, Sia’s “single mom joke” that led to his disqualification was: “Minsan sa isang taon, ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla pa – Nay, malinaw, nireregla pa – at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon, puwedeng sumiping ho sa akin.”
Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Arlene Brosas said in a statement that they are grateful for the Comelec’s decision. The ruling accordingly served as a wake-up call to politicians: “Misogyny is not just unbecoming of public servants—it is despicable and dangerous, and must be treated as such.”
The Pasig congressional candidate recently spoke to the press, defending himself. According to him, what he did fell under the freedom of speech. He questioned the resolution issued by the commission that ordered his disqualification, and if he ever wins, his proclamation would be suspended.
According to him, the joke was something he just picked up from his constituents. The intent behind the humor was to build a connection with his audience.
The 2nd division of the Comelec found sufficient basis to rule that Sia committed election offenses. He violated Section 261 of the Omnibus Election Code and Section 3 of Comelec Resolution No. 11116. This prohibits discrimination against women during the campaign period.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia underscored that candidates who were disqualified can still make an appeal before the poll body en banc up to the Supreme Court (SC).
